| This magnificent black hinge bracelet is, I believe, bakelite. It does not pass some of the test but the hot pin test did not leave any sign of a hole. It is from that era and sounds like bakelite and has no seams and is heavier than plastic and looks like bakelite. Black sometimes does not test with semi chrome or anything else. It is fabulous looking with its 14 rows of clear rhinestones with 8 rhinestones in each row, and no dark ones in the bunch. The hinge is rivited in. The depth at the top is nearly 1/2 in. and then the band tapers down to 1/4 in. The rhinestones have been placed on black panels and glued on to the top. There are some glue spots on each side of the bracelet where the rhinestone panels were attached. Images show all aspects of the bracelet. It is also a book item in Antique Traders Guide 2008 Page 189. Only difference is color. |
